Thank you for visiting the webpage of Cambridge Sociolinguistics Circle (CSLC). In early 2019, I founded the Circle with the purpose of promoting sociolinguistics in Cambridge, as contemporary research in Cambridge is still heavily oriented towards traditional formal linguistics.

In Lent Term 2019, we co-hosted talks with UnCaNi - The University of Cambridge Nationalisms and Identities Research Group. The term card can be found on our 'events' page.

We also ran a blog on various sociolinguistics related topics. The blog featured contributions from noted scholars including Ingrid Piller, Mark Turin, Jan Blommaert and Selma Sonntag.

In late 2019, I moved to New Delhi to take up a lectureship at JNU, and in December 2020, I assumed the role of Communications Secretary of BAAL Language Policy SIG, as a result of which the group has not been much active since then.

Cantabs interested in sociolinguistics are requested to get in touch to run the group. I will be happy to assist you in running our academic blog. Early career researchers as well as students are equally welcome to participate.

Sincerely,

Abhi Sharma
